In 1970, Frey Building Contractors was founded by brothers Bert and Mahlon Frey, firmly planning and inspiring the values and vision Frey employees continue to live up to today. As a privately-held, employee-owned company, Frey Building Contractors is managed by a seasoned leadership team and governed by a Board of Directors.
Recognized for our craftsmanship and integrity, Frey provides Design-Build, General Contracting and Construction Management services to the commercial, industrial, institutional, residential and agricultural markets. Within these markets, we have a number of specialties including, churches, equine facilities, custom homes, dairy facilities, office buildings, and turn-key additions and renovations.
Our projects are located throughout Ontario and we have also provided services to clients in Quebec, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
RYAN MARTIN, C.E.T - President
Ryan Martin directs and leads the senior management team in the implementation of strategies and initiatives to both grow the company, as well as ensuring the integrity of Frey’s unique corporate culture. Ryan has been with the company for over 21 years and as the second generation to one of the founders, he understands the value of building on the company’s successful past to create a continued legacy. Ryan is a graduate of Conestoga College and holds a Certified Engineering Technologist designation.
BRENDA MARTIN - Executive Vice President
Brenda Martin directs and manages the financial reporting, budgeting, accounting, and fiduciary responsibilities of Frey Building Contractors. Working closely with the firm’s banking, surety and insurance partners she ensures the financial resources necessary to support operations and controlled growth. Brenda oversees human resources, and assists with the development and implementation of strategic plans. Brenda has been with Frey for 15 years. Brenda is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, with a BA in Psychology.
LEX HAGA, MBA - General Manager
As General Manager, Lex is responsible for strategy implementation, organizational structure, project management, sales, marketing, and best practices. With over 26 years of experience as a senior manager in all aspects of the construction industry, Lex provides Frey with the ability to define and implement strategic direction, and guide all departments and staff towards success, continuous improvement, and fulfillment. Lex’s education includes a Master’s in Business Administration from Concordia University, and a Bachelors of Environmental Studies, Honours Urban and Regional Planning from University of Waterloo.
RON MARTIN - Senior Project Manager
Ron is a Senior Project Manager with Frey, and has been with the company for 38 years. Ron leads and manages some of Frey’s largest and most complex ICI projects. Ron’s acumen includes site experience, advanced construction knowledge and the ability to surpass customer expectations. Ron has extensive experience with equine facilities, commercial buildings and industrial facilities. Many of his projects come from repeat customers whom Ron has worked with for many years.
STEWART SHANTZ - Senior Project Manager
As one of Frey’s Senior Project Managers, Stew leads and manages projects in the ICI, residential, and recreational sectors. With his more than 21 years of site experience and top tier design, estimating and construction knowledge Stew is known by his clients to deliver outstanding results. Stew has extensive experience building churches, clubhouses, industrial facilities, medical buildings and custom homes. Stew has been with Frey for 43 years.

Starting at the executive level, Frey Building Contractors is committed to protecting the Health and Safety of our employees. By reviewing potential hazards, risk factors are identified and the required protection is communicated.
Safety is enforced at all sites, with all Frey employees, subtrades, and suppliers. Communication, proper documentation, inspections, meetings, and regular reporting to the executive team frame the Frey safety culture. Project safety is tailored to the specific potential risk factors and hazards associated with each project. The success of our Health & Safety program can only be achieved with everyone’s commitment and participation.
