As we transition from a long-standing external safety consultant to an internal role, we are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to help lead, strengthen, and continuously improve our safety culture across all operations.

Health and Safety Advisor

Position Summary

The Health & Safety Advisor is a senior, hands-on role responsible for providing practical guidance, leadership, and support for health and safety across the company. Working closely with site supervisors, project managers, and senior leadership, this role supports projects from start-up through close-out and plays a key role in ensuring safety expectations are clearly communicated, understood, and consistently applied.

This position is well-suited to an experienced construction safety professional who enjoys being present on job sites, building relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and applying health and safety principles in real-world conditions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and leadership in the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety policies, procedures, and systems.

  • Perform regular on-site visits and inspections across active projects to assess compliance and identify hazards.

  • Act as a resource and advisor to site supervisors and project teams from project start to finish.

  • Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety talks, and regular health & safety meetings with field and office staff.

·         Support supervisors and employees in meeting health and safety obligations, including:

·         Site-specific health and safety plans

·         Hazard assessments and job hazard analyses

·         Emergency response planning

  • Review accidents, incidents, and near misses; lead investigations and ensure corrective actions are identified, implemented, and tracked.

  • Track, analyze, and report health and safety performance metrics and trends.

  • Maintain training records, orientation documentation, and compliance files related to worker certifications and onboarding.

  • Work collaboratively with management to promote a proactive, solutions-focused safety culture.

  • Local travel to job sites is required.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree, diploma, or certification in Occupational Health & Safety, HR, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in a construction (strongly preferred) or industrial environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation and regulations.

  • Experience conducting site inspections, leading safety meetings, and supporting field-based teams.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a clean criminal record check.

  • Additional certifications such as First Aid & CPR, WHMIS, Train-the-Trainer, JHSC certification, or similar are considered strong assets.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Wage range: approximately $70,000 – $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • Full-time, permanent (Mon – Fri) in office position.
